PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
